Work 2022-2024

My sculpture series explores the profound aspects of life's journey, including transitions between phases that ultimately lead to transformation, renewal and emergence. The sculptures uncover a unique beauty as a result of the repairment of fractured pieces. The new hybrid, now whole again, mirrors the perspective of myself as one who is repurposed and reborn after loss, grief and healing. Various painting techniques reflect juxtapositions which co-exist in one piece, i.e., control vs. release, intentionality vs. spontaneity, transparent vs. hidden, reflecting the myriad of struggles encountered by all humans.

Wheelchair track marks and swirls serve as powerful symbols reflecting the individual paths we each navigate throughout our existence. Just as the layers of our life experiences shape our identity, multiple coats of paint unveil the depth and history within each piece. The varied consistencies of poured paint foster organic interactions and reveal captivating imperfections. Water emerges as a prominent motif, embodying fluidity, liberation, and the art of release. The swirls guide the viewer on a journey, replicating the cyclical nature of life and existence. These cyclical patterns reflect the idea that "everything comes full circle," reinforcing the idea that after a healing/repair process, one's journey may return to its aspired state or born anew.
